Water Testing
Water testing cost depends on the extent of testing needed. Basic loan packages start at $175 and a rush can be requested.

If your home is served by a private well, Arrow Home Inspections can collect water samples and coordinate laboratory testing to evaluate the quality and safety of your drinking water. Our testing packages can screen for common contaminants and help satisfy lender requirements for real estate transactions. If a well flow test or yield evaluation is needed, we are happy to recommend a qualified well contractor who specializes in measuring well production and system performance.

Friendly reminder!
Most test results are not immediate. Try to plan your contract deadlines around when test results will be recieved, not when the samples are taken.
Assuming no unique delays, E.Coli and Coliform tests come back in 48 hrs, Nitrates and Nitrites in 72 hrs, and Lead in 7 business days.
What are we testing for?
1
E. Coli
E. coli (Escherichia coli) is a type of bacteria commonly found in the intestines of humans and animals. While many strains are harmless, the presence of E. coli in well water indicates that the water has likely been contaminated by fecal matter and may contain other harmful bacteria, viruses, or pathogens. Because E. coli can cause serious illness, its detection in drinking water is considered a health concern and should be addressed immediately.
2
Coliform
Coliform bacteria are a group of microorganisms commonly found in soil, vegetation, surface water, and the digestive systems of humans and animals. While most coliform bacteria are not harmful themselves, their presence in well water can indicate that the water system is vulnerable to contamination from outside sources. A positive coliform result may suggest that bacteria, viruses, or other pathogens could enter the water supply and should be investigated further.
3
Nitrates/Nitrites
Nitrates and nitrites are naturally occurring compounds that can enter well water through fertilizers, animal waste, septic systems, and decaying organic matter. Elevated levels can pose health risks, particularly for infants, pregnant women, and individuals with certain medical conditions. Testing for nitrates and nitrites helps ensure that well water is safe for drinking and can identify contamination that may not be visible, noticeable, or affect the taste of the water.
4
Lead and Arsenic
Lead and arsenic are naturally occurring elements that can be found in drinking water due to natural mineral deposits, aging plumbing materials, or environmental contamination. Long-term exposure to elevated levels of either contaminant can pose serious health risks, including effects on the nervous system, cardiovascular system, and overall health. Because lead and arsenic cannot be seen, smelled, or tasted in water, laboratory testing is the most reliable way to determine whether a home's water supply is safe for consumption.

Lender Requirement
If your home is served by a private well, ask your lender whether well water testing is required for your loan approval. Many government-backed loan programs, including FHA, VA, and USDA loans, require water quality testing to verify that the well water is safe and meets lending requirements before closing.
